If you received a ticket for violating the Move Over Law and was unaware the law existed, your not alone.
According to a national poll by Mason Dixon Polling & Research, sponsored by the National Safety Commission: 71 percent of Americans have not heard of “Move Over” laws
In an article published January 12, 2013 in the sun-sentinel.com title, Move Over Law: Public awareness or traffic ticket trap, more than 8,700 “move over” tickets were issued in 2012 throughout the state of Florida.
8,700 tickets X $165 = $1,435,500 in 2012 alone and that’s just for the tickets issued by the Florida Highway Patrol during 2012.
When you add all combined Law enforcement agencies citations issued for violations of the Move Over Law in the State of Florida, the total tickets issued for 2012 is 18,524.
18,524 X an average cost of $140 per citation = $2,593,360 income to various agencies in the State of Florida. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
According to a WFTS ABC Action News I-Team investigation, Florida raked in more than $100 million from traffic citations in 2010 alone.
In Georgia, a Move Over Law violation can cost $500. Here’s proof; http://www.dot.ga.gov/informationcenter/programs/safety/Documents/WZS/Moveoverlaw.pdf
There is NO WAY a violation of this law should rise to the same level as a speeding or reckless driving and cost points on a drivers license and cause a drivers insurance rates to be increased. This is wrong and it’s going to be exposed.I have set up this website to expose how Police and the State of Florida are issuing citations and ruining people’s lives by punishing them for violating a law that 71 percent of Americans have not heard of and didn’t know existed.
